Morfa Mawddach is a beautiful estuarine valley that begins it's journey in the heart of Meirionnydd and opens out into Cardigan Bay. The Morfa Mawddach Trail guides you up the estuary from Barmouth to Dolgellau. The most outstanding feature of the Southern end of the Snowdonia National Park is the interaction between mountain and coastline and this geological drama is very much in evidence on the Mawddach.


The estuary also has a rich variety of wetland and woodland habitats which makes the walk a very special experience.

THE TRAIL

The walk from Barmouth to Dolgellau is 9 miles (15km). However it is an easy leisure walk suitable for all the family and involves no climbing. The beauty of the trail is that it can be joined at a number of points en route by taking advantage of local bus services, the Cambrian Coast Railway Line, or by arranging personal transport.

The route is also ideal for cyclists and bikes can be hired at Barmouth.

The walk can of course be made in reverse.
A TRAIL FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The National Park Authority has provided facilities for people with disabilities along a short section of the trail at Morfa Mawddach. This part of the trail is laid with shale waste to ease access for wheelchairs and has a handrail all along the route. There are special toilets in the Morfa Mawddach Car Park and the trail has a wide kissing gate entrance. Although this section is short, the surface of the track bed throughout the walk is reasonable and users may be able to continue along the entire length to Penmaenpool.
